How to use the oval generator

Set a width and a length in blocks. The tool draws an ellipse that fits exactly inside that rectangle. Choose a wall thickness and line style, or tick Filled for a solid shape such as a lake, a garden bed or a floor. When width and length are equal you get a normal circle — use the circle generator for that.

What to build with ovals

• Stadiums and arenas – an oval track looks far more natural than a circle for a racecourse or colosseum.
• Ponds and lakes – use a filled oval, then break up the edge with a few extra blocks so it looks natural.
• Ship hulls and airships – build several ovals of decreasing size as cross-sections.
• Egg shapes and domes – a tall oval viewed from the side makes a great window, arch or onion-dome profile.
• Garden paths and plazas – a flat oval plaza is a classic town-centre layout.

Keeping ovals symmetrical

If both dimensions are odd, the oval has a single centre block. If both are even, the centre sits between four blocks. Mixing odd and even works too, but the shape will have a centre line on one axis and a centre block on the other. Keep that in mind if you plan to put a door or path exactly in the middle.

How it is calculated

Each block is kept if its centre satisfies (x/a)² + (y/b)² ≤ 1, where a and b are half the width and half the length. The outline keeps only blocks within your chosen thickness of the edge. The perimeter shown is Ramanujan's approximation, which is accurate to well under one block for any size you can build.
