How to Build a Round Tower in Minecraft
Round towers look far more impressive than square ones, and they are easier to build than most players think. The trick is to plan the circle, the entrance, the stairs and the roof before placing the first block.
1. Choose the diameter
For a watchtower, 9–11 blocks is enough for a ladder or a tight staircase. For a wizard tower with rooms inside, go for 15–21. Use an odd diameter if you want a single central pillar for the staircase to wrap around.
2. Build the walls
Open the circle generator with your diameter and a wall thickness of 1 or 2. Build the first ring, then stack the same ring upwards. Every few layers, check from above that the rings line up. Break up tall walls with a ring of a different block every 6–8 layers.
3. Add a spiral staircase
With an odd diameter, place a pillar in the centre. Then place a stair or slab against the wall, move one block around the circle and one block up, and repeat. On small towers, a ladder against the wall is simpler.
4. Roof it
Choose a dome with the same diameter as the tower for a rounded roof, or build a cone by stacking smaller and smaller circles (reduce the diameter by 2 every one or two layers). A cone roof on a 15-wide tower looks great with dark oak or deepslate tiles.
5. Add detail
- Arched windows – use the arch generator for 3–5 wide window openings.
- Buttresses – small pillars every quarter of the circle.
- Battlements – alternate blocks and gaps on the top ring.
- Lighting – lanterns hanging from the roof, and light blocks hidden in the floors.
